FIFA orders former AFCON champions to pay unpaid wages

Cisse

After months of unpaid wages, FIFA has ordered the Libya Football Federation (FLF) to pay €820,000 in compensation to former head coach Aliou Cisse.

The former Senegal coach has finally won his case after fighting to receive the money he was owed while managing the national team.

According to reports, Cisse took charge of the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions in March 2025 on a two-year contract, with an option to extend for a third year. However, he reportedly did not receive his salary during the final eight months of his time with the team.

Reports said the FLF was facing financial problems, which caused the delay in paying his wages. Cisse ended his contract in April 2026 before filing a complaint with FIFA.

The 50-year-old had earlier announced his resignation as head coach of the Mediterranean Knights before quickly taking charge of Angola.
