Ee Wei shares encouraging update after successful ACL surgery

The Centaur Institute, where national mixed doubles shuttler Toh Ee Wei is currently undergoing rehabilitation after surgery on her left knee, has shared an update on her progress.

“With Toh, we’re trying to get the knee quiet as quickly as we can and that means getting the swelling out her joint as best as possible. After surgery, we often get what’s called arthrogenic which means muscular inhibition from the joint.

“So by using voluntary contraction from an exercise or a rehab task, it can help to restore it to the natural pathway,” said physiotherapist Andrew Casserly, who is already working on several rehab exercises with Toh.

The 25-year-old tore her left Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) at the Singapore Open and successfully underwent surgery earlier this month.

“My goal is recover as swiftly as possibly when I head back to Malaysia. The team at Centaur Institute is taking good care of me,” said Toh.

In her absence, Toh's partner Chen Tang Jie teamed up with teenager Clarissa San at the ongoing Japan Open.

The scratch pair did not get a winning debut after they lost in straight games against a Chinese Taipei pair on Tuesday.
